Mutya Buena Starts Legal Battle for Sugababes name

Sugababes have begun a legal battle against former member Mutya Buena over who should own the rights to the band’s name.

Current members Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen have teamed up with their record company Island Records to officially oppose Buena’s application last March over the rights to the name, reports BBC News.

Buena, who left Sugababes in 2005 and was one of the group’s founder members, applied to the European Trademarks Authority following the departure of the band’s last original member Keisha Buchanan in 2009.

“It just means the Sugababes have ended,” Buena said at the time of Buchanan’s leaving.

In correspondence with the European Tradesmarks Authority, Island Records said “there is a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public” due to the similarity between the band and Buena.

If Buena’s application is successful, she could be given ownership of the Sugababes name to use on CDs, books and DVDs.

[RUMOUR]New Album: Comeback Season?

According to online message forums, the Sugababes are recording their eigth album rumoured to be entitled Comeback Season. It is also suggested that Sweet 7 track, She’s A Mess is to be re-recorded for the new album, which lyrics from Tinchy Stryder, and will be the lead single.

Please note, NONE of this is CONFIRMED! It’s all Internet rumours, but I figured since there’s a low shortage of news, we could use SOMETHING on our Sugababes.

Though one thing is true, they ARE recording a new album already! Let’s hope this one is as hot as Sweet 7 and is more successful! We can’t let the ‘Babes fall!

Manager Confirms New Album & US Music News!

The Sugababes have started working on their new album, their manager has revealed.

The group, which Heidi Range recently insisted are not splitting despite poor sales on their latest album Sweet 7, are reportedly going back in to the studio to start work on their eighth album.

The trio’s manager Mark Hargreaves has now spoken out, insisting that the group are in high spirits and are working on a new record.

Hargreaves told Now: “They’re a very happy group today. They can’t wait to get back into the studio and bring back that feelgood factor.”

The magazine also reports that their previous hit single ‘Girls‘ recorded with former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan will be re-recorded with new member Jade Ewan’s vocals, and will be used to promote US department store JC Penney.

Hargreaves said: “It’s brought a massive resurgence of interest in the band over there.”

Buchanan is reportedly in talks about penning a tell-all book on her time in the band.

Heidi: “We’re not splitting up”

Heidi Range has put rumours to rest on the future of the Sugababes.

Reports of a split started after rumours that the band had been dropped from their US label Roc Nation.

However, a recent message posted on the group’s official website stated: “We have never been ’signed’ to Roc Nation for a scheduled album release in America.”

Range, who is currently promoting a new fitness class with Virgin, has now confirmed the band will not split up.

She said: “That rumour has been flying around for the past nine years!

“If we were going to split up I’d just come out and say it but we’re actually having a great time. We’re off to India next week and then we’re back in the studio to record some new tracks.”

Heidi Range’s Fiance Cries To Impress Her

image

TV presenter Dave Berry – who proposed to the Sugababes star earlier this year – tries to show his softer side as he knows it’s something the singer likes.

He said: “I’ve tried to cry more since Heidi absolutely fell in love with Tom Hardy who appears in a Kleenex advert. She loves him in that, so I’ve been trying to force myself to cry to get in on that action. All I do is wave my fingers in front of my eyes to calm myself down.”

Although Dave is happily engaged to Heidi, he is also a fan of another girl band singer – Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts.

He told Attitude magazine: “Nicola Roberts is my favourite member of Girls Aloud. No disrespect to her, she was always the ugly ginger one. Now she’s snuck her way into almost becoming a fashion icon.”

Sugababes most modern act of the last decade

MADONNA is the most-played artist of the past decade – ahead of THE BEATLES, it was revealed last night.

The Queen of Pop topped a list of acts based on airplay and public performances in the UK between 2000 and 2009.

The Fab Four were previously accepted to have been the most-played band in the country. But they are now second to Madge, 51 – whose hits include Material Girl and Ray Of Light.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS came third in a top five dominated by Brits, ahead of QUEEN and TAKE THAT.

The list was drawn up by royalties body PPL after counting radio and TV airplay – along with songs being played in pubs, clubs and shops.

The most modern act in the top ten was girl group SUGABABES. PPL chairman Fran Nevrkla said: “It is an accurate and democratic reflection of the most popular artists of the last decade.”

Meanwhile, Madonna yesterday demonstrated to Malawi people how to use a WATER PUMP.

The singer and her four kids jetted into the capital Lilongwe and visited a “model” village sponsored by the UN.

Madonna is set to reunite adopted daughter Mercy, four, with her birth family for the first time since her adoption last June.

She will also meet with the natural father of son David, four.

Sugababes singer Amelle Berrabah hits a bum note in unflattering jeans

Her outfits are usually sexy and sassy, but yesterday singer Amelle Berrabah made a rare fashion misstep.

The Sugababes star was spotted out in London’s Mayfair in a pair of rather unflattering jeans that did her shapely figure no favours.

She teamed her stretch denim – which hugged her curves in all the wrong places -  with a slouchy pair of Ugg Cardy boots, a brown leather jacket and a mid-riff baring lacy top.

Oh dear: Amelle Berrabah stepped out in London yesterday in an unforgiving pair of jeans

She was joined by her new boyfriend Tom Benn, a former model who now works in management.

The 25-year-old recently gushed: ‘He’s absolutely lovely. Tom gets the industry and he gets me – which is a real bonus. He’s romantic and he even took me to The Ivy for a Valentine’s Day date.

It’s Amelle’s first serious relationship since her split from long-term boyfriend Freddie Fuller last year.

Of her new love, she says: ‘I’m glad I found him.’

While her love life is on track, her career isn’t doing quite so well.

The Sugababes, which currently consists of Amelle, Heidi Range and newcomer Jade Ewen, have failed to set the charts alight with their new album, Sweet 7.

It debuted at number 14 in the UK album charts last month but has since failed to make it into the top 10.

Sugababes to Record New Music Soon..?

British girlgroup Sugababes seems to have a busy schedule ahead after all, reports suggest they are to tour India before recording new material.

Despite the poor sales of Sugababes last album “Sweet 7″ which landed at no.14 in the UK Album Charts last month, Amelle Berrabah, Heidi Range and new member Jade Ewen are still focusing on their music career.

Miss Everything featuring Sean Kingson will be the next single from their latest album Sweet 7. Sources say the release will be in June and that Island Records is planning a promotional campaign for the single. The song was confirmed as their next single by Radio 1.

The Sugababes will be performing at the Gaymer’s Camden Crawl in London on the 1st of May and Rock 4 Life Festival in Scotland on the 2nd of May 2010.
